From ages 12 months to 99 years, our pools have something for everyone. From safe and clean places to get in a few laps on your own, to swim lessons to competitive swim teams and water polo, we welcome the community of Lakewood.
With the high school swim season underway, the Lakewood High School pool is still open for open swims, kayak practice roll sessions, swim teams, and more. Our learn-to-swim program will resume in February at the conclusion of Lakewood High's competitive swim season.

These classes are great for beginners looking to feel more comfortable in the water to more advanced swimmers looking for stroke correction. Classes feature small group instruction.
Beginner swimmers are classified as those who are not comfortable putting their face in the water, swimming in deep water or those with a fear of the water.

Race in the pool like the Olympians! No previous experience needed for youth ages 7 to 12 in this fun introduction to competitive swimming. Practices are held several days per week, with a championship meet at the end of the season. Practice groups at Foster Pool in the morning and Becks Pool in the evening. Kiddos must be able to swim one width of the pool (25 yards, or approximately one length at LHS or Becks for comparison).
Registration for summer 2024 will begin Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 10am (Lkwd residents) and Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 10am (non-Lkwd residents)

Lakewood Municipal Pools Admission Policy Update
With the heat of summer in full force, both Becks Pool and Foster Pool have seen continued high usage this year. On multiple occasions, Foster Pool has reached full capacity and we have had to turn away swimmers seeking admission.
Both the City of Lakewood and the Lakewood Recreation Department hold the safety of pool users as our highest priority and we continue to jointly monitor the situation ongoing.
Due to safety concerns and a need to avoid overcrowding, we have updated our admissions and usage policies. This includes restrictions on any non-resident day passes so that each non-resident must be accompanied by a Lakewood resident ona one-to-one basis.
This policy is effective starting on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024.
Day pass admissions will require one of the following documents as proof of residency:
- Driver's License or State Issued ID
- Utility bill from current year
- School ID
- Report card (can be downloaded from Progressbook through June 30).
Existing season passes will continue to be honored and residency documentation is not required.

Foster Pool in Lakewood Park was newly renovated for 2023. Managed by the Recreation Department and owned by the City of Lakewood, Foster Pool features a speed slide, a looping slide, lily pads, water features, a family slide, a diving board, and a 50 meter by 25 yard l-shaped lap pool . Foster Pool offers Learn-To-Swim classes, open swims, adult swims, and hosts several swim teams, water polo, and competitive diving.

The Lakewood High natatorium consists of an 8-lane, 25-yard main pool and a separate diving well with 1-meter and 3-meter boards. The elevated spectator area provides seating for 400 people. The spacious pool area provides ample room for Learn-To-Swim classes, birthday parties, Scout troop outings and large swim meets.
The LHS Pool is located at the southwest corner of Lakewood High School. The entrance doors (labeled door #14) are located under the overhang of the building. Ample pool parking is available immediately east of the building entrance.

Lifeguard Training

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training classes offer great skills for students ages 15 and older who are seeking employment as lifeguards. Successful completion of this course will qualify participants for employment as a lifeguard.
All participants must pass the prerequisite skills test administered during the first class. This test consists of a 300-yard swim (front crawl and breaststroke with proper technique required), retrieval of a 10-lb. weight from a depth of 7 to 9 feet and 2 minutes of treading water without use of arms.
Classes are taught using the American Red Cross blended learning format. These courses include an online portion to be completed by the participant prior to the first in-person session. Steps to Certification
1. Participant registers for class
2. Around December 1, or within 1 to 3 business day(s), participant is emailed link to online portion of course
3. Participant completes online portion of course. Instructor is sent completion info automatically by Red Cross
4. Participant attends in person sessions
5. On final day of course, participant takes and passes (80% correct) written test and skills test
6. Participant is emailed certification via Red Cross
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Students must provide age verification in the form of a birth certificate, state ID, passport, etc. Students must be 15 years old by the last class. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Bring your suits, towels, goggles, and baskets and see how many eggs you can round up! Eggs can be redeemed for prizes. Children will be broken up into age groups for the hunt. All children ages 6 and under must be accompanied in the pool by a swimming adult. Coast Guard approved floatation devices, including vests and "puddle jumpers" are permitted.

To attend classes, participants must buy a virtual "punch card" usable for any class rather than registering for a specific class. Similar to our system for outdoor pool passes, participants will just have to check in each class they attend with the lifeguard on duty. When purchasing on-line, select "Purchase a Membership".

Class Description
Power Water Aerobics is one of the longest running and most successful aquatic programs running at the LHS Pool. Instructor Ann Schwarz has been teaching the class for over 20 years.
What separates Power Water Aerobics with Ann from other classes is the great atmosphere and tone Ann sets. Everyone, from a beginner who has never taken a class before, to a veteran of many years, can have a great experience in Ann's class. The water provides a resistance equal to the force you exert, which levels the playing field. The pool provides a place to work out that is much easier on those who are injured or unable to work out on land.
The class focuses on three areas: aerobic training and conditioning, upper body strength, and core strength. The aerobic training is an area that Ann builds intensity throughout each class meeting, and throughout the session. Upper body strength is an area that needs improving, and the water provides a great forum for that. The last focus area, core strength, is tackled with a variety of abdominal exercises to improve overall strength and flexibility.
New attendees are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to the first class to meet Ann and get a brief overview.

These classes are great for beginners looking to feel more comfortable in the water to more advanced swimmers looking for stroke correction. Classes feature small group instruction.
Beginner swimmers are classified as those who are not comfortable putting their face in the water, swimming in deep water or those with a fear of the water.
Advanced swimmers are classified as those who are comfortable in deeper water and looking for stroke improvement.

Practice your kayaking skills in the heated LHS Pool this winter. Please note that you must bring your own kayak, helmet, and equipment to each session. No swimming during kayak sessions. No formal instruction is offered. Friendly tips from other kayakers are encouraged however.
