Camp-Can-Do is a unique and innovative approach to providing educational and recreational opportunities for youth with special needs ages 5 to 13 during the summer months. This eight-week program is geared toward educating youth on a variety of positive and socially appropriate pursuits, as well as providing a high level of supervision for fun summer activities. Throughout the summer we hope to encourage each child’s talents to grow. Camp Can-Do campers will participate in adapted recreational activities like art, music, reading, language skills, speech, socialization, swimming, field trips and special events. A $20 non-refundable deposit is due at time of registration. The Camp Can-Do program runs Mondays through Thursdays in four two-week sessions. Registration by credit card may be completed online. For those receiving payment from a third-party provider (i.e. CCBDD, Neon, etc), please call or stop by the recreation department to register and provide payment information. Recreation staff are available by phone (216-529-4081) or in person M-F 6:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. No Camp 6/19

Progress with Chess - Beginning students will master the rules and moves of the pieces, basic strategy and checkmates. More experienced players will explore openings, endgames, tactics and checkmate patterns. Activities include a healthy mixture of interactive lessons and supervised open play. A short recess is scheduled in the morning and afternoon with opportunities for physical exercise. Lunch and free time will be from noon to 1pm daily.

Artists and writers needed! Campers build a puppet out of recycled materials and we write a play. Puppeteers come up with their own dialogue to fit the story. Next we record the show. Puppet show video will be shared on the last day of camp. $10 due to instructor first day of camp, please bring a smock.

Ukulele and Songwriting Camp - Beginning songwriters will learn how to play chords and strum fun songs on the ukulele. All campers will write a group song and perform it together. More experienced players will get tips for making their songs come to life. Campers gain experience playing with a group and even performing for others. Bring your own ukulele or borrow the instructor’s.

Children will step back in time to become children of the 1800’s. By learning to cook, experiencing pioneer school, playing historic games, and working on exciting crafts, participants will have fun learning how Ohio early settlers lived. The Old Stone House, located in Lakewood Park, will be used daily through the courtesy of the Lakewood Historical Society and Stone House Society volunteers. This program is for students who are going into third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade.

This summer program features an actual town setup, complete with streets, crosswalks, stop signs and traffic signals that will help prepare children for school. Music, crafts and visits from community helpers such as police and firefighters will help reinforce the valuable safety lessons. Concludes with a parent/family visitation day. Class limit 25. Skateboard Camp
Learn to skate and how to navigate Lakewood Skatepark. Meet new friends and discover how
easy and fun skateboarding can be - even for an absolute beginner!
Camp Counselors are adult skaters/parents/coaches with decades of experience to share with
the new generation!
Requirements:
● Skateboard/bmx style helmet that covers the back of the skater’s head (not a cycling
helmet).
● Skateboard should roll and turn easily. Good bearings and quality trucks will make
learning much easier. Sign up for “Camp with Skateboard” and receive a brand-new
skateboard to keep!
● Water bottle highly recommended!

This eight-week program is geared toward educating youth with special needs ages 14-22 on a variety of positive and socially appropriate pursuits, as well as providing a high level of supervision for fun summer activities. Campers will participate in a variety of experiences such as swimming, travel training, art, music, language arts, socialization, daily living skills, field trips, and special events. A $20 non-refundable deposit is due at time of registration. The Camp S.T.O.P. program runs Mondays through Thursdays in four two-week sessions. Registration by credit card may be completed online. For those receiving payment from a third-party provider (i.e. CCBDD, Neon, etc), please call or stop by the recreation department to register and provide payment information. Participants with special needs will learn an overview of fishing including casting, basic safety and fishing rod parts and terminology. Participants will enjoy the experience of catch and release fishing under the guidance of the Cleveland Metroparks Outdoor Adventure instructors. Poles and bait will be provided.
