Camp Can-Do - Summer 2026
Special needs children ages 5-13yrs
Camp-Can-Do is a unique and innovative approach to providing educational and recreational opportunities for youth with special needs ages 5 to 13 during the summer months. This eight-week program is geared toward educating youth on a variety of positive and socially appropriate pursuits, as well as providing a high level of supervision for fun summer activities. Throughout the summer we hope to encourage each child’s talents to grow. Camp-Can-Do campers will participate in adapted recreational activities like art, music, reading, language skills, speech, socialization, swimming, field trips and special events. The Camp-Can-Do program runs Mondays through Thursdays in four two-week sessions.

Embark on thrilling hands-on activities as you assemble up to 12 working experiments. Learn how different devices are used to extract useful energy, from a waterwheel in a small stream to a giant turbine in a tidal power station! The full-color, 32-page manual offers illustrated instructions and scientific information. Build a sawmill, and a hammer mill to harness the energy of moving water to do different types of physical work! With your classmates, you will witness and investigate the intriguing properties of water. You can even construct a hydroelectric power station to generate electricity and light an LED! The first three days will be themed around different skills (i.e. passing and serving day 1) while the final day of camp will allow participants a chance to work on their skills in team scrimmages. Join other Lakewood ball players as we teach the fundamentals of baseball in a four day baseball camp run by the Lakewood High School coaching staff and the LCBSA. Ranger Summer Baseball camp, players aged 7 through 14 can meet new friends, test their skills and learn the Ranger Way. Students will attend traditional orchestra rehearsals, participate in same instrument sectionals and technique sessions as well as possibly be selected to participate in chamber music ensembles. An Alternative Approach to String Playing

Interested in playing a string insturment? Never played before? This is the camp for you! Come and work with the members of the Lakewood Project on the non-traditional aspects of playing your string instrument. Campers will learn how to improvise, compose their own music as well as learn several rock pieces that will be performed with the Lakewood Project in concert. Percussionists, guitarists, and electric bass players are also welcome to register.

Children will experience life of the Western Reserve in the mid-1800’s through hands-on activities, such as cooking, cleaning, doing chores, experiencing a school setting, playing old time games and completing craft projects. The Oldest Stone House, built in 1835 and located in Lakewood Park, will provide the setting for a number of the activities. This program is open to students who are entering third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

Safety Town
Safety Town - Summer 2026

This summer program is open to children entering kindergarten in the fall and features an actual town setup, complete with streets, crosswalks, stop signs and traffic signals that will help prepare children for school. Music, crafts and visits from community helpers such as police and firefighters will help reinforce the valuable safety lessons. Concludes with a parent/family visitation day. Class limit 25.

Skateboard Camp - Summer 2026

Learn to skateboard and meet new friends at Lakewood Skatepark! New skaters learn to stand, push, turn and start and stop safely as well as how to fall with minimal impact. Returning skaters are challenged to try new things and set examples for new skaters. Each skater progresses at their own rate in small groups across mostly ages 7-13 years old. This eight-week program is geared toward educating youth with special needs ages 14 to 22 on a variety of positive and socially appropriate pursuits, as well as providing a high level of supervision for fun summer activities. Campers will participate in a variety of experiences such as swimming, travel training, art, music, language arts, socialization, daily living skills, field trips, and special events.
